Stuart A. Shikiar

Co-Chief Executive Officer, Chief Investment Officer

Mr. Shikiar founded Shikiar Asset Management Inc. in 1995 and is the firm’s Co-CEO and Chief Investment Officer.  The firm is a registered investment advisor catering to high net worth individuals, families and tax-exempt institutions, and is based upon the investment philosophy and processes cultivated by Mr. Shikiar over his 40+ years of managing investment portfolios.  Prior to founding Shikiar, he was a Partner and Portfolio Manager at Omega Advisors, a hedge fund with ~$5B+ in AUM.  Prior to joining Omega, Mr. Shikiar was Chief Investment Officer and Managing Director of Prudential Securities Investment Management for ten years, overseeing $2B+ in AUM. He also held the Chief Investment Officer position at Furman Selz Capital Management prior to Prudential, and before that was part of an investment team as a portfolio manager at Wertheim & Company, catering to high net worth individuals and institutions.  Mr. Shikiar has served on the Board of Directors of three publicly traded companies, one listed on the NYSE, one listed on the AMEX, and one NASDAQ listed.  He has a BBA from City College of New York.  Mr. Shikiar is a trustee of the Baruch College Fund.  He is also former Chairman of Baruch’s Endowment Investment Committee and is still an active member of that committee.

Samuel M. Shikiar, CFA

Co-Chief Executive Officer

Sam joined Shikiar Asset Management Inc. in 2018 as a Managing Director and at year end 2022 was named Co-CEO. Prior to joining the firm, he spent 11 years at Goldman Sachs in the Asset Management Division with the Quantitative Investment Strategies Group and subsequently within the Securities Division, where he was the Global Head of an Electronic Sales and Trading team. Sam advised several of the world’s largest systematic and discretionary hedge funds and asset managers in this role. He was nominated by Goldman Sachs and thereafter selected to be on the Forbes Magazine “30 Under 30” list for Finance in 2014. As a passionate supporter of the arts, Sam also serves as Co-Chair of the Guggenheim Museum Curators Circle and has also been a Trustee of the New York Academy of Art and an Acquisition Committee member at the Whitney Museum. He is an alumnus of The Dalton School in New York and graduated with Highest Honors from Lehigh University with a degree in Accounting. Sam is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder. He lives in New York City with his wife and their two children.

Diane M. McDermott

Partner, Chief Compliance Officer / Operations Manager

Ms. McDermott joined Shikiar Asset Management Inc. in 1997 and is now a partner with responsibilities ranging from client servicing to performance measurement.  She is also the firm’s Chief Compliance Officer.  Prior to joining Shikiar, she was an Associate Vice President and the operations manager for the Investment Advisory Division at Prudential Securities.  Before her duties as operations manager, she worked directly with Mr. Shikiar in his role as the Senior Investment Officer of the firm’s Investment Advisory Division.  Ms. McDermott received a Business Administration Certificate from Berkeley College.

Lockwood T. Sloan, CFA

Vice-President

Mr. Sloan joined Shikiar Asset Management Inc. in 2015 and has responsibility for client relationships, corporate development and operational supervision.  Prior to joining our Firm, Mr. Sloan served for over seven years as a Vice President at Pershing/Bank of New York Mellon Capital Markets.  His career also includes having served in the wealth management divisions at U.S. Trust Co. and Merrill Lynch.  Mr. Sloan holds a BA in Economics from Wheaton College and is a Chartered Financial Analyst charterholder.  Mr. Sloan is a member of the CFA Institute.

August J. Fusco III

Research Associate

AJ Joined Shikiar Asset Management in 2021 as a Research Associate with Portfolio Management and Equity Research responsibilities. Prior to joining the firm, he covered Financial Services and Real Estate Equities at Gerson Lehrman Group, helping to grow out their sector coverage and ticker universe. Prior to Gerson Lehrman, AJ was an Analyst at Goldman Sachs within their Investment Management Division. He helped manage Ultra High Net Worth, Family Office, Endowment and Foundation assets in both the public and private markets. He started his career at JPMorgan Chase & Co. within their Financial Analyst Development Program. AJ Graduated from Lehigh University with a B.S degree in both Finance and Accounting.
