Our clients range from multiple
generations of high net worth families and individuals, including CEOs and
Presidents of both private and publicly traded companies as well as other
prominent leaders in their respective industries, to institutions,
foundations and trusts. They all have come to expect a high level of
professionalism and responsiveness from Shikiar Asset Management. Each
portfolio is overseen by a team of investment professionals to ensure
continuity and accountability. Clients are kept thoroughly informed about
activities in their portfolio through trade confirmations and monthly
brokerage statements. Additionally, on a quarterly basis, clients receive our
firm’s economic and market overview. An in-depth portfolio review statement
accompanies this letter, which contains performance for the quarter and the
year-to-date period, and annualized and total returns since inception. This
report also includes a quarter-end snapshot of the portfolio, including
market value, asset allocation, a listing of securities owned, their cost basis
and market price, as well as a capital gains report.
We act solely as an independent investment advisor, and, as such, avoid the
potential conflicts of interest inherent in also serving as one’s own
broker-dealer. Shikiar’s numerous contacts on Wall Street, as well as our
blue-chip prime brokerage relationship enable us to search for best execution
on our trades. Furthermore, securities can either be custodioned
at our prime broker at no additional cost, or client directed to a fiduciary
of their choosing.
We consider ourselves not only investment managers, but more broadly as
trusted advisors to our clients. Shikiar has over the years facilitated the
transfer of intergenerational wealth, identified tax strategies, and worked
closely with our clients to help them better understand the economic and
financial factors that impact the stock and bond markets and their
investments. We are also well versed in communicating with, and expediting
the requests of, other financial and legal professionals, working often with
client accountants, lawyers, business managers and trustees. We are familiar
with their needs and provide them with the same professional level of
service. We believe personal contact and service are essential to successful
client relationships, and make the high level of communication between our
team and our clients a primary focus.
To maintain this open dialogue, the client and/or their respective
representative will speak or meet regularly with their portfolio manager to
review their investments, revisit their financial objectives and risk
tolerance, as well as review with them their current tax status. New clients
will have more frequent contact with their portfolio manager in the first
several quarters of the relationship in order for both to establish a common
understanding of the clients’ entire investment situation, and to reaffirm
how Shikiar’s investment philosophy and process attempts to meets these needs
and goals. It is through this in-depth and on-going communication that we
